How To Keep Your Computer Healthy

To have a well-functioning laptop, you need to ensure you take good care of it. Maintaining its health means keeping it safe from hazardous materials, making sure it functions regularly and keeps the viruses away. This can ensure that your laptop works well in the long run. We’ve listed below a bunch of simple things you can do, to keep your laptop’s health and hygiene in check.

Keep your laptop away from liquids

Having a cup of coffee, soda or water at your side while you work is convenient, especially when you’re loaded with work. However, accidents can happen too easily and it’s not a risk worth taking. If you happen to knock it over the laptop, there’s a good chance your laptop will be unrepairable, even by an authorized service center. They often don’t work on devices that have been exposed to liquid damage. Spilled liquids can easily crawl through your keyboard and speakers to damage the internal microelectronic components or even cause short circuits. This can result in not just a damaged laptop but it can permanently destroy data on the device as well. The only solution to this: Keep your drinks away from the computer.

Install an antivirus program

The best defense against a virus is installing antivirus software. Antivirus helps protect your laptop against any bugs, trojans, and viruses that can harm your computer without your knowledge. Unreliable downloads, websites, and data can cause viruses. Not having an antivirus program installed can run the risk of a circuit or software error. This results in the system’s operations and performance slowing down. What’s worse? Viruses can make your laptop vulnerable to being hacked as well.

Keep food away from your laptop

Eating around the laptop is highly unrecommended. The crumbs from your food can fall between the keys, inviting bugs and ants. Additionally, no one wants their laptop to look dirty.

Keep it away from animals/pets

If you have pets at home, it’s recommended to not let them come in close contact with the laptop. Their fur and hair can harm the internal workings of the computer. Large animals can even damage the laptops by knocking them over. It is ideal to keep the laptop in a clean and dust-free room.

Clean your hands before using

Leaving dirt and stains on the computer might compromise the appearance of your laptop. But more importantly, dirt from unclean hands can also cause bacteria to inhabit the laptop.

Avoid rapid temperature changes

During winter, when you step indoors, don’t turn your laptop on immediately. You’d rather want to wait for it to warm up to room temperature first. This can help avoid any potential damage that could be caused due to condensation. Keep your laptop away from direct sunlight. This can heat up the system and cause temperature changes.
